A Friendly, Caring Church

                 St. Andrew's Missions

The Missions Team will serve a vital connection between a needy world and St. Andrew's

Our task as a mission team is to learn about needs in the community and the world, and bring that information before St. Andrew's…..thus allowing our church to participate in God’s Mission.

In this needy world there are those who do not follow Jesus and His teachings; there are those who are hungry, sick, fearful, and lonely; and there are those with many spiritual, physical and emotional needs.

Christmas Adopt A Family
Christmas was a little brighter for thirteen families this year.  SA adopted families and provided complete Christmas meals including all the trimmings.  The kids were provided stockings stuffed with toys and candy.  Gift cards were given to parents for further shopping for the kids.  Thanks to SA Sunday School classes and many others from the Church for donating money and their time for deliveries.  The families were selected by guidance counselors from Southeast and Woodlawn Middle Schools.  A "thank you note" from one of the adopted family members reads:  Thank you so much for the gifts that you brought to me and my family.  I can't tell you how much we appreciate it and how much it meant to us.  It lifts my spirits to know there are wonderful people willing to help strangers at such a difficult time.  Merry Christmas St. Andrew's.  God Bless you all.

      Dulac Mission Trip

St. Andrews sent a team to Dulac, LA June 6th-13th, to work with the Louisiana United Methodist Disaster Response Ministry (www.laumcstormrelief.com). Our congregational team joined the St. Andrews Youth group for a hurricane recovery construction rebuilding project.

We have set up a blog site so you can follow our trip with us, you will find us at this link:  http://dulacmission.blogspot.com

Dulac, Louisiana
Set in the bayous of the southern reaches of Terrebonne Parish, this is a place where water and swamp outnumber dry land in square miles. It is the home of interesting mix of hearty people, about 51% Houma Indian and 49% Cajun. The Houma Indians originally had settled in the Red Stick (Baton Rouge) area of LA, then moving south to Houma and finally down to Dulac (meaning "the land beyond the lake"). For some 300 years the Houma have lived in the vicinity of the Grand Caillou and LaFourche Bayous as fishermen, trappers and farmers. Their southern LA villages remained very isolated for many years. Until the 1940’s there were no roads to Houma community’s beyond the city of Houma and the only way the people had to travel was by boat.

The devastating hurricanes of the past few years have taken toll on this community, with much wind and water surge damage to homes with little protection down in the marsh. Our team spent five days working on homes installing new flooring, replacing drywall and paneling, installing trim, decking repair and general home repairs. We worked cleaning and panting the Community Center Gym…..and yes we did a little fishing, played some games and had a great time of fellowship. Our the theme of our evening devotions was Mat 25:14-30 the parable of talents, Rick did a great job helping us realize our team was investing our "talents" in the people of Dulac. I think we all came back a little changed. Thank you Jesus for a great trip to Dulac and thank you St. Andrews Mission Team for investing your "talents" in Dulac.
